I believe these projects are successful because they illustrate that Abstract Algebra is not just about clever tricks and abstract objects/properties that generalize the integers (as, I fear, too many undergraduates believe.) Rather, Abstract Algebra is a rich set of tools that allow us to define useful frameworks on a wide range of situations, making computation and problem-solving possible - even easy.

Again, this is all good mathematical material with some good problems, but I don't see what it has to do with learning abstract algebra. One of my alumni said that he usually covered up the proof of theorems and try it out himself. That is, if G, H, and K are multiplication as the bijective property holds from before, and the homomorphism follows trivially from the proof that G and H are closed under multiplication. 6.25 Prove that Z under addition is not isomorphic to Q under addition.
